Graduate Programs

Overview.
The Department of Psychological Sciences offers a doctoral program with emphases in:

  • Clinical Psychology
  • Child Clinical and Developmental Psychology (dual emphasis in Clinical and Developmental Psychology)
  • Cognition and Neuroscience
  • Developmental Psychology
  • Quantitative Psychology
  • Social/Personality Psychology

All emphasis areas offer broad empirical and theoretical training with a research emphasis. The Clinical Psychology emphasis area is accredited by the American Psychological Association. The department also offers a diploma-designated graduate minor in psychological statistics and methods. The PhD program is research-oriented and calls for at least four years of full-time study. Students enroll full time and enter the program only in the Fall semester. Students earn their MA degree in their progression to the PhD. A terminal MA degree is not offered.

The Department of Psychological Sciences is participating in the University of Missouri Graduate School's PHD completion project. This national initiative seeks to improve graduate education and the graduate student experience, while raising awareness of doctoral completion issues on campus and in the department.

Graduate training is divided into five training areas: clinical, cognition & neuroscience, developmental, quantitative, and social & personality. Each graduate student is affiliated with an area. Explore the Areas to see if one is right for you.

2. Identify Potential Faculty Mentors.
The Department of Psychological Sciences follows a mentorship model: graduate students work with specific faculty in specific labs. Explore the Faculty and Labs section of the Areas pages. Look for a good fit between your research goals and our faculty. A careful selection of potential faculty mentors is an important part of the application process.

3. Explore the Program.

4. Apply to the Program.

Deadline
Applicants seeking admissions in Fall 2010 should submit their application materials (as required) to the Graduate School and the department in time to be received by the December 1, 2009 deadline.
