Special Instructions for Active MU Undergraduates

Students are admitted to the program only in the fall semester. If you are an active MU undergraduate on campus, you do not need to apply through the Graduate School's online system. You will, however, need to fill out the Graduate School application and submit it directly to the Department. The pdf version of this application is available here:

Graduate School Application

All supporting documents should be submitted directly to the department. All application materials must be received by the department application deadline of December 15.

All applications to this department that are completed by the deadline will be evaluated by our separate admissions committees. Notification of the results of this evaluation, including offers of admission and financial support, will be made on or about March 15.

INSTRUCTIONS for completion of the application:

  • The Graduate School's application form. (see above)
  • Transcripts -- for our purposes, you may submit a student copy of your MU undergraduate transcript.
  • Departmental Application -- The form is available below.
  • Three letters of recommendation -- The forms are available below.
  • Personal statement.
  • Official test scores -- GRE scores should be sent directly from the Testing Center to the Department at the address below.

3. Special instructions regarding submission of supporting documents:

References: Recommendations from three references are required.

Preferably, the references should be from professors who can comment in detail about your qualifications for graduate study in psychology and subsequent academic or research career.

Test Scores: We only accept official GRE reports sent directly from the testing service to us. Applicants are cautioned against taking the GRE too late since the scores may not be available before our deadline.
*The Advanced Psychology test is encouraged by some of our Emphasis Areas, but is not required.

Personal Statement: Please submit a statement of your career objectives and your interests in psychology. Indicate why you believe psychology would be a satisfying vocation for you, and what experiences you have had that directed your interest toward psychology. Indicate the areas of research activity in which you are particularly interested.

Samples of Work: While not required, applicants are encouraged to submit samples of their work (preferably research-oriented) with their applications. Please note that these should be copies since we cannot return them.
