Financial Support

Entering graduate students in the department are eligible for financial support. This support is in the form of graduate teaching or research assistantships, campus fellowships, or part-time work in training placements and carries with it a waiver of educational fees.

The department is committed to providing financial support for students in good standing through at least the first five years of their graduate career. Students in good standing often receive support beyond five years. All graduate students who have a Masters degree approved by MU faculty will receive an additional increase in stipend in the year following receipt of the degree. Teaching Fellows in our Teaching of Psychology Practicum will receive an additional stipend.

For academic year 2008-2009, pre-masters students will receive $13,123 per academic year, post-masters students will receive $13,897 per academic year and fellows in the Teaching of Psychology Practicum will receive $14,897 per academic year.

The department makes funds available to support thesis and dissertation research and for graduate student travel to make presentations at professional meetings. In addition, about 85% of our graduate students receive at least two months of summer support in activities related to their academic interests. Please note that the cost of living in Columbia compares favorably with most locations throughout the country.

Fees

The waiver associated with a research assistantship or teaching assistantship applies to educational fees and non-resident fees, but does not include additional fees, such as the recreation facility fee, student activity fee, and information technology fee. The Cashier provides a summary of estimated educational fees and additional fees for each semester.
