Undergraduate General Info
Welcome to the Department of Psychological Sciences
The Department of Psychological Sciences was established in 1900. It is one of the 27 departments within the College of Arts & Science at the University of Missouri. Our department consists of 40 full-time faculty, as well as several adjunct faculty members. Approximately 1,200 students are currently pursuing the undergraduate Bachelor of Arts in Psychology degree. We also have a nationally accredited doctoral program with emphasis areas in clinical, cognition and neuroscience, developmental, quantitative, and social/personality psychology.
Our Goals for the Undergraduate Psychology Major
The faculty and staff of the Department of Psychological Sciences are committed to providing students with a high quality, broadly-based undergraduate education. Because students use the psychology major as preparation for a variety of post-graduation goals, we are dedicated to offering a wide range of courses and services to students. While some students are interested in continuing on to graduate school, most students wish to pursue careers after they graduate. Regardless of a student’s ultimate goals, our faculty members believe that students will be best served by completing a rigorous research-oriented program of study. Therefore, students should expect their instructors to take a scientific approach to the particular psychological content of each course.
Support for Psychology Majors
Psychology majors can work in diverse fields such as community and social services, human resources, management and business, student affairs and services, law enforcement, education, and scientific research. We strongly encourage students to explore their career interests by taking a variety of courses in and outside of psychology, by visiting the campus Career Center and by utilizing the resources available in the Advising Office.
