Bio

Dr. Melanie Miller (she/her) is a licensed psychologist and Assistant Clinical Professor in MU’s Department of Psychological Sciences, providing direct clinical services as well as clinical supervision and graduate student instruction through the MU Psychological Services Clinic. Dr. Miller earned her bachelor’s degrees in psychology and human development from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, before completing her M.S. and Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Kentucky. She completed her doctoral internship through the Missouri Health Sciences Psychology Consortium’s health psychology track at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital.

Clinically, Dr. Miller provides evidence-based treatment to adults experiencing a range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma-related concerns, substance use, and disordered eating. Her clinical work includes a specialty in health psychology (e.g., chronic pain, insomnia, and adjustment to disability and medical conditions) as well as treatment for concerns related to identity, relationships, and major life transitions. She also provides psychological assessment to support diagnostic clarification and individualized treatment planning. Her approach is collaborative, culturally responsive, and grounded in evidence-based, integrative psychotherapy tailored to each client’s needs and goals. Although research is not the primary focus of her role, she remains involved in research and program evaluation aimed at increasing access to mental health services for historically underserved populations.

Dr. Miller is committed to ongoing learning in cultural responsiveness across her clinical work, teaching, and supervision. She seeks to meet each person within the context of their intersecting identities, relationships, physical health, and lived experiences, including systemic barriers that may affect access to care. She values authentic therapeutic connections and works collaboratively with clients to build on their strengths to support meaningful change. She affirms each person’s right to respectful, accessible, and culturally responsive care and training across differences in age, disability, body type, gender identity and expression, military background, national origin, race and ethnicity, religion and spirituality, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and other intersecting identities.
